IC 1797 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Aries north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 188 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 40,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 924 , NGC 932 , NGC 938 , among others .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 16, 1896 .
