IC 1783 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Fornax in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 147 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light-years across. Together with three other galaxies, it forms the IC 1788 group ( LGG 52 ).

The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on December 29, 1897 .
