IC 1769 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Chemical Furnace (technical language Fornax, Latin "the furnace" ) in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 242 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter.
The property was discovered by DeLisle Stewart in 1899 .
