Andrew Hamilton (born June 10, 1882 in Aberdeen , † July 20, 1915 on the Western Front ) was a Scottish football player .
Career
Hamilton played for the amateur clubs Favorites and Aberdeen Harp in Aberdeen local football at the beginning of the 20th century, and in mid-April he was part of a selection of the Aberdeen Football Association as a center forward on the occasion of a charity match against Aberdeen FC , in which he scored a 2-1 victory contributed to the selection of the association. In the following weeks he made some appearances in the reserve team of Aberdeen FC before he was firmly committed to the 1905/06 season by the club. Initially still active in the reserve team, he came after a few goals on November 22, 1904 on the occasion of a first division game against Third Lanark for his only appearance in the first team, when he was preferred to the more experienced center strikers Alfred Ward and George McNicol . The decision was criticized in advance by the press with the words: “This is hardly the right time for Aberdeen to be able to afford to bring a young player.” After the 2-1 defeat, the verdict was benevolent: “Hamilton was not a complete success in the center for the "Wasps" [note: Aberdeen's nickname], but he showed a decent understanding of the game and against Sloan [note: opposing middle runner ] his ball distribution overall was decent. "In the following months he came continued to work regularly in the reserve team and was also successful as a scorer, an accident with scaffolding caused a forced break in March 1906, at the end of the season he was no longer signed up by Aberdeen.
Hamilton was married and earned his living for several years with the comb manufacturer Aberdeen Comb Works . During World War I , Hamilton served as a private with the Gordon Highlanders . He was killed in combat on the Western Front in July 1915 . His name can be found at the Menenpoort in Ypres .
