Ormond Stone
Ormond Stone (born January 11, 1847 in Pekin , Illinois , † January 17, 1933 in Centerville , Virginia ) was an American astronomer and mathematician .
Ormond Stone was the director of the Cincinnati Observatory in Ohio from 1875 . In 1882 he was offered the directorate of the new McCormick Observatory at the University of Virginia . In 1884 he founded the Annals of Mathematics with his own money , which is today one of the most important specialist journals in mathematics .
During his many years as an astronomer he discovered 88 objects in the NGC catalog and 7 in the index catalog .
