NGC 953 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Triangle in the northern sky . It is an estimated 216 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy NGC 972 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on September 26, 1865 .
