NGC 947 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Whale north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 219 million light years from the Milky Way and about 135,000 ly in diameter.
The object was discovered on November 10, 1835 by John Herschel .
