NGC 955 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 67 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years across. The galaxies NGC 936 , NGC 941 , IC 234 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was by astronomer William Herschel using on 6 January 1785 of a 18.7-inch - telescope discovered.
