Foundation, history, goals

In its self-portrayal, the magazine quotes a statement by Duchess Anna Amalia about the Tiefurter Journal she edited : an “enchanting mixture of high culture and banal news”. This quote would also apply - "with a wink" - to the character of the Elbhang courier. The magazine focuses on historical, cultural, art and current news from the south-east of Dresden between Blasewitz and Laubegast , Loschwitz , Pillnitz and the Weißer Hirsch to Weißig .

The Elbhang-Kurier accompanies the work of a number of associations and, according to its own presentation, “tries to be close to the citizens”. Important personalities from the past and present, the everyday history of residents and their work are presented. The architectural and economic development of the Elbhang area, decisions by the city council and citizens' initiatives are also discussed. The magazine's logo shows a stylized high cyclist, inspired by Matthias Griebel from Loschwitz and his vehicle.

The Elbhang-Kurier describes itself as independent and non-partisan. The zero number was distributed free of charge by duo three-wheelers and a horse-drawn cart in Loschwitz and Blasewitz in April 1992; the official number 1 appeared in time for the street festival of the Third World Store Havekost in Hosterwitz and the spring festival at the Weinbergkirche in Pillnitz. In 1993 Burgi Trommer left the editorial team and the Pillnitz chronicler Dieter Fischer took over her role. In 1995 Elbhang-Kurier and the local association Pillnitz showed the exhibition "The Palmenhaus Pillnitz in photography, painting and graphics" in the local palm house. Postcards have also been sold since 1996, created by the editorial team and the publisher. In 1997 the "Chronicle of Söbrigen" was created, in 1999 the first website on the Internet. In 2008, the index for the first 15 years was published with 189 issues. In 2012, the 20th anniversary of the Elbe Hotel Demnitz in Loschwitz was celebrated.
