The UK Championship 1984 was a snooker tournament that was played from November 18 to December 2, 1984 at the Guild Hall in Preston . After two more tournaments in addition to the snooker world championship were used for the first time two years ago for the evaluation of the snooker world rankings, three more tournaments were declared to be world rankings this season. The UK Championship has also been part of it since the 1984/85 season . To do this, the UK Championship had to be converted into an open tournament, which means that from then on all professional players from outside the UK could also take part in the tournament. This increased the number of participants, but also the prize money by more than a third.
The title stayed in the United Kingdom: Englishman Steve Davis won for the fourth time, defeating last year's winner Alex Higgins 16: 8.
Prize money
The prize money exceeded £ 100,000 for the first time . The winner received £ 20,000 instead of £ 12,000 and 60 players received a bonus instead of 48.
