2008

The 2007 UK Championship was a snooker tournament that was held from December 8th to 16th, 2007. After 6 years the tournament had moved from York to Telford to the International Center . The winner was Ronnie O'Sullivan , who defeated Stephen Maguire 10-2 in the final. For O'Sullivan it was the fourth UK Champion title.

In the semifinals against Mark Selby , "The Rocket" also achieved the seventh maximum break in tournament history. Only in the snooker world championship had there been seven maximums up to then. It was also the first time ever that a 147 break had been played in a decisive frame of a ranked tournament. For O'Sullivan personally it was the eighth 147 break of his career. Only 37 days earlier he had scored his last maximum break at the Northern Ireland Trophy .

Prize money

After falling below £ 600,000 for three years, the prize went well above it this year. Thanks to the £ 25,000 bonus for the Maximum Break , it was the second highest amount since 2001 ever to be paid out at this tournament. Almost only the top 4 benefited from this, the winner alone got £ 23,000 more. The minimum bonus for third qualifying round losers has been increased from £ 2000 to £ 2200.

Century Breaks

42 Century Breaks were achieved in the main tournament, an average value. The two finalists Ronnie O'Sullivan and Stephen Maguire alone achieved 13 breaks of 100 or more points. O'Sullivan played at least one Century in every game, including a Maximum Break . Maguire missed a 100 break in the final by just one point, but with seven Centurys he was still the most successful scorer.
