The Betway UK Championship 2015 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2015/16 season , which was held from November 24th to December 6th, 2015 at the Barbican Center in York , Northern England .

Last year's winner Ronnie O'Sullivan did not appear to defend his title.

In frame 6 of the third round, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh from Thailand was on maximum course after an outstanding last red and punched to pink, but then missed the last black. This has only happened to Ken Doherty and Mark Selby before him .

The winner was Neil Robertson . It was his second title at the tournament after 2013 . The Australian had won the 2015 Champion of Champions title just four weeks earlier .

He also managed a maximum break in the final . It was the 115th official 147 break in professional snooker and the 14th in the UK Championship. It was the first maximum in the final of a Triple Crown tournament (World Championship, UK Championship, Masters). For Robertson it was the third maximum of his career.

Prize money

With one exception, the prize money remained unchanged from the previous year: the losers in round 2 (last 64) received £ 4000 instead of £ 3000 .

Tournament course

1 round

Former world champion Ken Doherty shone in his opening match against Tony Drago with a 6-0 win in just 73 minutes and showed his strongest performance of the season so far with breaks of 132, 119, 84 and 61. Even John Higgins , who already has two ranking tournament victory was celebrated in the season, started strong with a 6: 1 against Leo Fernandez . The first round of Ding Junhui , who had to beat Adam Duffy 2: 6, was surprising . After the match, the Chinese criticized the poor playing conditions in York . Even Michael White retired after last good performance with almost 5: 6 against Sydney Wilson and thus missed the chance to qualify for the Masters 2016 . Riga Open winner Barry Hawkins stumbled after a mixed performance against Andy Hicks 6: 5 in round two. What was bizarre in this round was a series of game interruptions due to the long match duration. A total of three decisions were made after 1:00 a.m. local time.

2nd round

Stephen Maguire and the reigning number one, Mark Selby , stormed into the next round without a frame loss . Things went less well for Dominic Dale , Graeme Dott , Mark Williams , Ricky Walden and Fergal O'Brien , who all failed 5-6 in the decider. Barry Hawkins and Joe Perry were also eliminated 3: 6. After his loss to Robbie Williams, Perry criticized the Englishman's style of play and described it as "boring, it was worse than pulling teeth".

3rd round

The climax of this round came in frame 6 of the game between Neil Robertson and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh . The Thai had already punched red and black and all colors up to and including pink fifteen times and set it perfectly on black, but missed it from the spot and thus missed the chance of a maximum break and prize money of 44,000 pounds. Robertson responded with 145 points, the highest break of the tournament to date, and won with 6: 2.

The comebacks of the round celebrated Liang Wenbo , who was already down 4-1 against Judd Trump and turned the game to a 6-4 win, as well as Dechawat Poomjaeng , who even made up a 5-0 deficit against Mark Joyce . Even the sovereign Mark Selby stumbled 6: 5 against Jamie Jones over the finish line. It was over in this round for World Champion Stuart Bingham (3: 6 against Peter Ebdon ) and the finalist of the Champion of Champions , Mark Allen . This had to Martin Gould 4: admit defeat. 6

Round of 16

In the top game between Neil Robertson and Stephen Maguire, the Scot started strong with a Century of 118 points. Then only Robertson played and overran Maguire with five breaks of over 50 points, including a 126, 113 and a 101. Selby also won against Dechawat Poomjaeng with 6: 1.

Things got a little tighter for John Higgins, who beat compatriot Jamie Burnett 6: 4 . Marco Fu reached the quarter-finals after a long dry spell with a 6-4 win over Shaun Murphy , who so far has not been able to build on his strong performance from the previous season. Liang Wenbo made another comeback against Tom Ford , who turned a 3-5 deficit into a 6-5 win.

Quarter finals

In the summit between Neil Robertson and John Higgins, the Scot opened with a Century Break of 119 points, whereupon the Australian of 106, 59, 71 and 56 points responded and moved away with 4: 1. Higgins fought for the decisive frame with two more 134 breaks and played the 600th Century of his career - a mark that only Ronnie O'Sullivan and Stephen Hendry had so far achieved. In a contested decider with mistakes on both sides, Robertson made better use of his chances and won an overall high-profile match 6: 5. Mark Selby clearly won against Matthew Selt 6-1 and easily reached the semifinals.

Liang Wenbo started furiously with 3 Century Breaks in a row against Marco Fu, before the Hong Kong man shortened to 2: 3. Wenbo continued to defend his lead, but could not expand it at any point and only won 6: 5 in the decision-making frame. Martin Gould started strong against compatriot David Grace and pulled away with 5: 1, Grace, however, remained nervous and saved herself in the decider. After a nice snooker from Gould something strange followed: Grace missed a total of seven reds when referee Terry Camilleri decided not to give another "miss". After a mistake by Gould, Grace punched to Pink and reached the semifinals of a world ranking tournament for the first time in his career.

Semifinals

In the first semi-final, Liang Wenbo and David Grace fought a match with many mistakes on both sides. Both players looked nervous at the beginning, Grace had the chance to take the lead after a long, competitive first frame, but then missed Pink. In the following frames, Grace came into play better and fought for a 4-1 lead. Liang Wenbo remained combative and finally won 6-4 after more than five hours of match time.

In the evening there was a top match between Neil Robertson and Mark Selby. The Englishman started strong with a 52 break, but Robertson managed to steal the frame. The same picture was also shown in the second frame. Selby couldn't continue after 55 points and the Australian took a 2-0 lead with a strong clearance. After that, more and more mistakes crept in with the number one in the world rankings and Robertson used his chances to a 5-0 lead. In the last frame, Selby fought his way up again, but with a clearance from green to black Robertson made it into the final and won 6-0.

final

Neil Robertson started the final with a 2-0 lead after beating Liang Wenbo with smaller breaks. However, the Australian did not play as hole-proof as in the previous rounds, for example, he missed yellow from the spot in frame one. Wenbo shortened with a nice Century from 110 points to 2: 1, before Robertson secured the break lead to 3: 1 with a 106. In frame 6 Robertson started with a long red into a terrific maximum break, the third in his career, and after a strong and intense first session of both players went 5-3 ahead.

In the evening session, Wenbo initially shortened to 5: 4 with a break of 82 and shone in places with furious match play, but made too many mistakes, which Robertson used and finally crowned his outstanding tournament performance with a 10: 5 success.
