In November 2012 he made it to the final round of the amateur world championship for the first time and lost in the round of 32 with 2: 5 against the Swiss Alexander Ursenbacher . At the U21 European Championship in 2013 he reached the semi-finals, in which he was defeated by the eventual European champion James Cahill with 1: 5. In May 2013, Hill tried to qualify for the Main Tour through the Q School . He reached the first tournament the quarter-finals of his group, the third tournament the semifinals. With this he missed a professional starting place on the Main Tour, but was able to participate in the qualifying tournaments of several world ranking tournaments of the 2013/14 season via the Q-School Order of Merit . In qualifying for the Wuxi Classic 2013 he lost 3-5 in the qualifying round to Alan McManus from Scotland . Also at the Australian Goldfields Open and the International Championship 2013 he was eliminated without a win in the qualification. In the Amateur World Championship in 2013 , he reached the second round, just as in the U21 European Championship 2014 .

In May 2014 he again missed qualifying for the Main Tour at Q School. In the second tournament he made it to at least the quarterfinals of his group, which enabled him to take part in several qualifying tournaments again as an amateur in the following season . At the Australian Goldfields Open 2014 he achieved his first victory in the qualification of a full world ranking tournament. In the first qualifying round, he defeated Chris Wakelin , against whom he was already 1-0 and 2-3 behind, 5-3. Then he came without a fight against the non-competing Thai Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the third round, in which he was eliminated with 1: 5 against Liam Highfield . At the Indian Open 2015 he lost his qualifying game 4-0 to Sam Baird . A few days later, at the U21 European Championship in 2015 , he made it into the final with a 5-4 semi-final win against Lukas Kleckers . There he defeated the Englishman Louis Heathcote 6-3 and qualified for the Main Tour seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17 . In qualifying for the Professional World Championship in 2015 , he made it to the second round with a 10: 9 first round win against James Cahill , next to Adam Duffy as the only amateur, in which he lost 6:10 to Robert Milkins .

In his first season as a Main Tour professional, Darryl Hill started with defeats in the qualifications for the Australian Goldfields Open 2015 and the Shanghai Masters 2015 . He also lost his first game at the first three PTC tournaments of the season, the Riga Open , the Paul Hunter Classic and the Ruhr Open 2015 , where he had reached the second round in the Latvian capital because his first-round opponent Jamie Burnett did not play was. In October 2015 he achieved his first victory as a professional at the International Championship and at the same time made his first entry into the main round of a full world ranking tournament when he defeated Robert Milkins 6: 4 in qualifying. In the round of the last 64, however, he was eliminated 2-6 by Jimmy Robertson . After reaching the second round at the Bulgarian Open 2015 , he only managed to win again at the China Open 2016 . Since his opponent in the qualifying round, the then world champion Mark Selby , did not appear, Hill moved into the main round. There he achieved after a 5-3 win against James Wattana by reaching the round of 32, in which he was eliminated by Dominic Dale , his best result to date in a full world ranking tournament. In qualifying for the 2016 World Cup , however, he was eliminated in the first qualifying round.

His second professional season, the 2016/17 season , was less successful. His first win came at the Welsh Open 2017 when he defeated the Thai Dechawat Poomjaeng 4-1 in the first round and then was eliminated in the round of 64 against Ali Carter . A little later he reached the round of 32 in the snooker shoot-out with wins against Kurt Maflin and Bradley Jones , in which he lost to Li Hang . In the tournaments that followed until the end of the season he was again without a win. In the first qualifying round of the 2017 World Cup , he met Rory McLeod . After Hill had led 2-0 and 7-5, among other things, he had to admit defeat 7:10. At the end of the season he finished 104th in the world rankings and thus lost his professional status.

In May 2017 Hill missed the direct return to the Main Tour at the Q School: He was eliminated from the first tournament in the second round and lost his opening match at the second tournament .
