2017

The Coral Scottish Open 2016 was a world ranking tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour 2016/17 and was held from December 12th to 18th, 2016 in the Emirates Arena in Glasgow , Scotland . The tournament had several forerunners, the last being a mixed tournament of professionals and amateurs called the Scottish Open in 2012 . With the introduction of the Home Nations Series 2016 with four tournaments in the four parts of the United Kingdom , the tournament was re-established as a full-fledged ranking tournament. It is the third tournament in the series after the English Open and the Northern Ireland Open .

The number-one player Mark Selby canceled the second tournament of the series after the Northern Ireland Open. In addition, only the Chinese Ding Junhui from the first half of the world rankings did not start in Glasgow.

Hong Kong-Chinese Marco Fu won the final 9: 4 against the Scottish world number three John Higgins .

Prize money

The prize money is the same for all four tournaments in the Home Nations series and is in the middle of all Main Tour tournaments. The £ 1 million bonus for the winner of all four Home Nations series tournaments was already invalid, as there had been two different winners in the first two tournaments.

Tournament results

First round to round of 16

The tournament was held in the same format as the Welsh Open in previous years : 128 players competed in the first round without prior qualification. All Main Tour professionals were eligible to take part, and any vacancies were filled by two wildcard players from the Scottish Association (members of the Scottish national team Chris Totten and Ross Vallance) and other amateurs who had qualified via a Q-School ranking list. Up to the round of 16, four winning frames ( Best of 7 mode ) were played.

final

The final was a home game for the Scotsman John Higgins , but Marco Fu had also lived in Scotland for a long time and trained with Stephen Hendry and Stephen Maguire . With three century breaks in a row, Higgins got off to an excellent start in the final. Fu put a Century against it, but the Scot immediately restored the 3-frame lead. But then the thread broke completely. In frames with a safety game and more complicated pictures, only the Chinese had the upper hand and at the end of the first session Higgins had to accept the compensation. In the evening he couldn't get a leg on the ground and even missed good chances in contested frames. Across all sessions, Marco Fu won eight frames in a row and thus also the final with 9: 4. It was his third title in a Main Tour ranked tournament.
