Kurt Andrew Dunham (born December 6, 1991 in Burnie , Tasmania ) is an Australian snooker player .

Career

Beginnings

Kurt Dunham's father was himself a nationally active billiard player and so he played himself in his youth. He took part in a national championship for the first time at the age of eight and won his first national title at the age of 12. Further titles in various billiards followed. To improve his game, he moved to Melbourne , the hometown of Neil Robertson , when he was 16 . Eight years later he won the Oceania Championship against Steve Mifsud and was then nominated by the Oceania Association OBSF for the Snooker Main Tour with entry authorization to participate in professional tournaments for two seasons.

He gave up his second passion, motorsport, and moved to Cambridge , where he became training partner of Neil Robertson and Joe Perry . He achieved his first professional victory at the Paul Hunter Classic 2016 , where he won against Alex Borg 4-2 at the start .

Professional years

Season 2016/17

His first professional season started for Dunham with three defeats in a row. In qualifying for the Riga Masters he lost 2: 4 to Ian Burns , in qualifying for the Indian Open he lost 1: 4 to Joe Swail and in qualifying for the World Open he was defeated by Xiao Guodong 0: 5. His first win came in the first round of the Paul Hunter Classic , where he defeated Alex Borg 4-2. In the following round he was defeated by Mei Xiwen 2: 4. In qualifying for the Shanghai Masters he lost to Hammad Miah 3: 5, shortly afterwards he lost 0: 4 in qualifying for the European Masters to Mei Xiwen. In the first round of the English Open he lost 4-0 to Akani Songsermawad , at the next tournament, the International Championship , he lost 6-0 to Stuart Carrington , which was his third white wash in a row. In his next game, he defeated Christopher Keogan 4-2 in the first round of the Northern Ireland Open . In the round of the last 64 he fought a close duel with Scott Donaldson , which ended 3: 4 in favor of the Scots. At the UK Championship he lost 6-1 to Liang Wenbo in the first round , and at the Scottish Open he lost 4-0 to Mark King . In the first qualifying round for the German Masters he was defeated by the Englishman David Gilbert 3: 5. His remaining games he lost: For the Welsh Open , he lost in the first round with 1: 4 against Mike Dunn , the shoot-out he was defeated in the first round with 32:64 on points against Stuart Carrington, in the Gibraltar Open lost he was 1: 4 against Jimmy White , at the China Open he was defeated by David Gilbert 1: 5 and in the first round of the World Snooker Championship he lost 1:10 to the Scottish Alan McManus . He finished the season at world number 123 .

Season 2017/18

The next season began Dunham with a 0: 4 defeat against Zhou Yuelong in qualifying for the Riga Masters . Also at the China Championship lost to zero, he was defeated by Michael Holt 5-0. In the first round of the Paul Hunter Classic he lost 4-0 to Kyren Wilson . In qualifying for the Indian Open he lost 4-0 to Zhou Yuelong, followed by a 5-0 win against Matthew Stevens at the World Open . His last of six white washs in a row he had to pocket in the qualification for the European Masters , he was defeated by Mark Davis . He won his first frames in the first round of the English Open , but lost 3: 4 to Zhang Yong . At the International Championship he lost in qualifying 4-6 against Mark Joyce . Two more white-washs followed: In qualifying for the Shanghai Masters he lost 5-0 to Ben Woollaston and in the first round of the Northern Ireland Open he lost 4-0 to Elliot Slessor . In his first round game at the UK Championship he won a frame and lost 6-1 to Barry Hawkins . His first win of the season was in round 1 of the Scottish Open : He defeated the Chinese Tian Pengfei 4: 2, then he was defeated by Peter Lines 2: 4. In the qualification for the German Masters he was defeated by Ryan Day 5-0. In the shoot-out he defeated Chris Totten and Lü Haotian , and lost in the round of 32 to Barry Hawkins. In the first round of the Welsh Open he surprisingly defeated Ryan Day 4-2, before he was eliminated 2-4 against Yan Bingtao . At the Gibraltar Open he benefited from the abandonment of Ali Carter , so that he could advance in round without a fight. There he lost to Cao Yupeng 3: 6. In the first qualifying round for the World Snooker Championship , he lost 6:10 to Daniel Wells . He finished the season on world number 117 , which was not enough for a qualification for the next season. Since he did not register for the Q School , he lost his professional position for good.
