Ian Burns (born March 11, 1985 in Preston ) is an English snooker player .

Career

To make the leap to the pros on the Main Tour , Burns took part in the tournaments of the Pontin's International Open Series between 2006 and 2010 . He achieved his best result in an individual tournament at the eighth tournament of the last PIOS season 2009/10. He failed only in the semifinals against Jack Lisowski . In the same season he also achieved his best result of the season with 24th place in the overall ranking.

In the 2010/11 season , the Q School replaced the PIOS series as a qualifying tournament series for amateurs: Burns failed twice in 2011 in the semi-finals (against Stuart Carrington and Chen Zhe ) of his group. In 2012 he won his group in the first tournament and received a 2-year tour ticket for the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons .

Burns also tried to compete with the professional players of the Main Tour in the tournaments of the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons of the Players Tour Championship . In both seasons he reached the round of 32 twice, defeating players like James Wattana and Rory McLeod .

During the Snooker World Cup 2000 (his only participation in this tournament so far) he lost his opening game in qualification.

In May 2013 Burns was named Rookie of the Year .
