André Blavier

André Blavier (born October 23, 1922 in Verviers , Province of Liège ; † June 12, 2001 ibid) was a Belgian librarian , publicist and writer who belonged to the Oulipo group of authors and a supporter of the absurdist philosophy and science concept founded by Alfred Jarry 'pataphysics was. He gained further fame in particular through his documentaries on the life and work of the French writer Raymond Queneau .

Life

Consisting of a working class family originating Blavier made after school a vocational training librarian and was during the Second World War than 1,940 forced laborers in the German Reich deported . After returning to Belgium in 1942, he began working as a librarian in Verviers.

As such, he deals quickly and extensively with the work of Raymond Queneau, author of Le Chiendent (1933) and Les Enfants du Limon (1938). Blavier decides to write a biography about Queneau, which creates a long-term friendship between the two, based in particular on the mutual spiritual bond: Both want to distance themselves from their words in order to restore the full weight of social reality. In 1949 Queneau was one of the first to sign the Manifesto des Collège de 'Pataphysique ( artist group' Pataphysik ' ), which goes back to the poet and playwright Alfred Jarry . In 1950, Blavier himself joined the Collège de 'Pataphysique .

In 1952 he founded the Temps-Mêlés group with Jane Graverol and in the following years organized conferences on the works of the poet Andrée Sodenkamp , exhibitions of the works of the painters René Magritte and Maurice Pirenne , but also theater, cinema and music performances, for example Concerts by Pierre Froidebise . He documented the work of this group through the magazine La Revue Temps Mêlés , the first issue of which appeared in December 1952. He was also a member of the Oulipo group of authors founded by Queneau and François Le Lionnais , which was particularly dedicated to potential literature .

In 1965 he founded the Foundation of the Luxembourg Institute for the Study of Pataphysics and in 1976, after the death of Raymond Queneau, the Raymond Queneau Documentation Center in Verviers, which organized an international colloquium in honor of Queneau every two years .
