The 2000 World Snooker Championship took place from April 15 to May 1, 2000 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield and marked the end of the 1999/2000 snooker season .

The defending champion was Stephen Hendry from Scotland , but this year he lost 7:10 to Englishman Stuart Bingham in the first round . The winner was Mark Williams from Welsh , for whom this was the first world championship title.
