The 1938 World Snooker Championship was a tournament that was held for the sixth time at Thurston's Hall in London , England . This was to remain the venue until the war-related break from 1941.
For the first time in the history of this tournament, a qualifying round was played in which three players competed against each other. Joe Davis , who won the title for the twelfth time in a row, won the final against Sidney Smith 37:24. He was also the player with the highest break of 104 points.
After 1935 and 1936 , the Canadian Conrad Stanbury took part again in the tournament, which was dominated by English players, but was eliminated after his first game. For the first and only time, CW Read, a player of unknown origin, took part in the World Cup.
