The Nützenberg cross bar is a small-scale natural space unit with the order number 337 1 .36 in the urban area of the Bergisch city of Wuppertal ( Elberfeld district ) within the Wuppertal valley .
It forms a narrow point in the breakthrough valley of the Wupper between the Elberfeld limestone basin (natural unit 337 1 .35) in the east and the Sonnborn limestone area (natural unit 337 1 .37) in the west. The bottleneck is formed by the elevations Nützenberg in the north and the Kiesberg in the south, which formed a ridge before the Wupper breakthrough.
The bottleneck is called Porta Wupperana in various publications .
The Düsseldorf – Elberfeld and Bundesstrasse 7 ( Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse ) traffic routes and the Wuppertal suspension railway run through the narrow point in the densely built-up valley axis . The main Bayer AG plant and the Elberfeld thermal power station are also located in the bottleneck.
Geologically, the crossbar with its two elevations consists of Central Devonian Lenne slate , which, due to its hardness, towers over the karstified limestone in the Wuppertal Valley.
