final

Alex Higgins got off to a better start and led 4-2 after the first session . Because the TV lights were too bright and Reardon couldn't see the balls properly, he complained during the break and the lighting was changed. Then Ray Reardon was able to win five frames in a row and finally led 8: 5 after the first day. The following frames were almost all won by Alex Higgins, so by the end of the third session he was again leading 10: 9. After Reardon won five frames in a row at the end of the second day, he was able to break away with 15:11. In the fifth session, Higgins won the first two frames, but Reardon ultimately increased to 19:13. In the break before the sixth session, Reardon complained again to the organizer because referee Bill Timms was overwhelmed in some situations. At Reardon's request, the referee was changed and Welshman John Williams led the game to the end. Officially, this exchange was justified with Timms' absence due to illness. By the end of the third day, Reardon was finally able to extend his lead to 24:15. On the last day only four frames were played, as it was already clear that Reardon had won the tournament. The final score was 27:16.
