The Indian Open 2017 was a snooker tournament of the main tour - season 2017/18 , which was held from September 12 to 16 in Visakhapatnam , India . It was the fourth edition of the Indian Open . The defending champion was Anthony McGill from Scotland . He reached the final for the second time in a row, but this time had to admit defeat to his compatriot John Higgins . For Higgins it was the 29th victory of his career in a world ranking tournament, making him the second best player in Main Tour history (after Stephen Hendry ).
Prize money
The total prize money increased by £ 23,000 compared to the previous year . Those who reached round 2 benefited from this, as did the quarter- and semi-finalists.

qualification
The qualifying round was in on 1 and 2 August 2017 Guildhall in the English city of Preston played. Seven games were played in India at the start of the main tournament. On the one hand, there was the game of defending champion Anthony McGill . On the other hand, 6 players with a wildcard from the Indian Association were given the opportunity to take part in the tournament. These games were integrated into the qualifying round and not played as an intermediate round as in the previous year. All games were played in best-of-7 mode .
