Li Yuan ( Chinese  李远 , Pinyin Lǐ Yuǎn ; born October 20, 1989 ) is a Chinese snooker player from Dongguan .

Career

Li Yuan started playing billiards at the age of 9 and was taught the basics by his father. When his talent showed, he was sent to Guangzhou at the age of 13 to take lessons from Wu Wenzhong, national coach and former coach of Ding Junhui .

From 2005 he started playing in international tournaments. At the Amateur World Cup in 2006 , he survived the group stage and came under the last 32. At the U21 Asia Cup , he reached the final in 2008, where he was defeated by Li Hang . For this he got a wildcard for the China Open . In his first appearance at a professional Main Tour tournament , he lost just under 4: 5 to Marco Fu . At the Shanghai Masters he also lost in the wildcard round.

After that he began to establish himself at the national level, and it became quiet around him. It was not until 2012 that he registered for the Asian tournaments of the Players Tour Championship and reached the second round at the first tournament in Zhangjiagang . The following year he repeated the result at the Zhengzhou Open . At the Haining Open 2015 he won his first win against a professional player (4-1 against Oliver Lines ). At the China Open 2017 he received a wildcard for the third time.

As the best amateur in the national ranking of the Chinese Association, a two-year ranking based on the CBSA China Tour, he was authorized to start the Main Tour for the 2017/18 season and the following season.
