Li Hang ( Chinese  李 行 , Pinyin Lǐ Háng ; born October 4, 1990 in the People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese snooker player .

Career

Li Hang first attracted attention as a 14-year-old at the IBSF U21 World Championship in Bahrain in 2005. There he finished third behind his older compatriots Liang Wenbo and Tian Pengfei . Another notable success followed two years later at the 2007 China Open , where he qualified for the main round with a wildcard by defeating Welshman Ian Preece. Then he got his first place in the Snooker Main Tour by winning the U21 Asian Championship in 2008 .

Even if he could not qualify for a main round in his first year, Li Hang almost always survived the first qualifying round, at the Northern Ireland Trophy he only failed in the last game. With the points gained, he made it to 71st place in the world snooker rankings , which meant that he was also qualified for the Main Tour next year. At the Welsh Open he achieved his best qualifying round result with the round of 48, but he still didn't collect enough points to maintain his professional status.

In the summer of 2010, Li Hang took part in the U21 World Cup again. There he reached the final and only lost in the decisive frame against the Englishman Sam Craigie.

At the China Open 2011 he was only able to participate with another wildcard. He took his chance and moved through a clear 5-1 against Ken Doherty for the second time in the main round of the tournament. With a win over the world number nine Graeme Dott in the decisive frame, he was among the top 16 of a professional tournament for the first time and had the greatest success of his career so far. He was unable to build on this success in 2012 . In the wildcard round he was able to prevail 5-3 against Michael Holt and was one of 3 Chinese wildcard players who made it into the main round of the last 32, but had to admit defeat 5: 0 against world number one Mark Selby .

In the 2012/13 season, Li also took part in the Asian Players Tour Championship (APTC) for the first time. At the third tournament in Zhengzhou he managed to march through to the final, where he was defeated 3: 4 against Stuart Bingham . In the APTC Order of Merit, the tour ranking for non-professionals, he took first place. This gave him the right to start the Main Tour again for the following two seasons.

In the first year he laid the foundations with numerous first victories, four times he reached round 2 and thus pushed himself into the top 90 of the world rankings. The 2014/15 season was his most successful year to date, with a round of 16 at the International Championship and the Indian Open and the quarter-finals at the APTC tournament in Yixing . In the final World Cup he just missed the final at the Crucible Theater by a 9:10 against Stuart Carrington . Up to 55th place among the professionals, it brought him forward. A year followed without any particular highlights, but he reached round 3 in tournaments six times and round 2 again as often. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season he reached his highest world ranking position with 51st place.
