List of winners in ranked snooker tournaments
This list provides information on the winners of snooker ranking tournaments .
The World Snooker Federation ( WSA ) introduced a world ranking list for the 1976/77 season . This applied retrospectively for the past three years, ie from the 1974 World Cup. Initially, only the results of the annual World Championships were taken into account for the ranking , and further ranking tournaments were added from the 1982/83 season . From the mid-1980s onwards, between six and twelve events were usually played annually, a total of 361 tournaments (as of the 2020 Snooker World Cup ). The number of winners is therefore, compared to other sports such as. B. tennis, rather low. So far, 66 different players from 13 nations have entered the winners' lists.
The following table only takes into account title winners whose results have also been included in the world rankings. Exceptions are the so-called minor ranking events : In the early 1990s, only a tenth of the normal ranking list points were distributed in four tournaments. These events were not accepted by the established players and after a short time abolished by the world association. The winners of the minor ranking events were Joe Swail , Tony Drago , Troy Shaw and Chris Small . However, the last one also recorded a regular tournament win and is therefore included in the list. Also not considered are the pre-tournaments of the Players Tour Championship , which were held from the 2010/11 season to the 2015/16 season and were also minor ranking tournaments.
However, the actual performance of the most successful players of the 1970s and early 1980s cannot be adequately reflected in this list, as some of their successes have not been reflected in ranking results. This applies above all to the multiple world champions Ray Reardon , John Spencer and Alex Higgins , whose early world championships (until 1973) are not listed here. The early titles at the UK Championship are also not counted , as it only became a ranking tournament in 1984.
