In the first two tournaments of the Players Tour Championship 2011/12 he won against the top 32 players Jamie Cope and Anthony Hamilton .
At the end of the season he was the first Belgian to qualify for the World Snooker Championship by defeating Ian McCulloch , Barry Pinches , Michael Holt and Mark King . He broke the record held by Stephen Hendry since 1986 as the youngest participant in a finals of the World Cup. In his opening match he was defeated by Stephen Maguire 5:10. It was then announced that Brecel would also be given a wildcard for next year.
At the UK Championship 2012 he qualified with four wins - including a 6: 1 over former world champion Peter Ebdon - for his second full world rankings tournament. With a 6: 5 opening win over Ricky Walden, he made it to the round of 16, in which he also defeated Mark King and made it to the quarter-finals of a Main Tour tournament for the first time. There he was defeated by Shaun Murphy 5-6 .
