Round of 16

The round of 16 was played in the afternoon session on Sunday, February 14th.

In this round, the experience prevailed. With the exception of 20-year-old Luca Brecel , all winners were between 36 and 46 years old. The game between Joe Swail and Gary Wilson was remarkable : Six seconds before the end of the match time, the Northern Irish punched red to make it 16:16. He had just enough time to run around the table and, if he was lucky, played the pink ball when the last second had already been announced. It fell, giving Swail the tightest win of the tournament.

Semifinals

In the first semifinals, neither Swail nor Brecel were able to use each other's mistakes to make higher breaks. Step by step, the Belgian built a lead of 38:15 points. In the end, Swail was running out of time and only got four points. Even with Mark Williams, the race to catch up did not succeed. A foul from him helped Robin Hull to a first break of 34 points. Twice the Welshman missed a ball trying to get back, twice the Finn profited and increased his lead significantly.

final

After the Chinese Xiao Guodong for the first time a non-British competitor in the shoot-out final last year , this time it was the first time without British participation. Robin Hull had the better start to the match and moved away to 43: 7. Luca Brecel came up again, but in a promising position under time pressure, awarded the red ball, which would have enabled him to turn the match with the next color. After that, Hull was able to finish the match to a 50:36 victory. For Hull it was the first victory in his first Main Tour final. For Brecel it was the second defeat in the second final after losing the German Masters final just a week earlier .
