The World Cup 2015 was a snooker invitation tournament as part of the Main Tour of the 2015/16 season , which was held from June 15 to 21, 2015 in Wuxi , China .
It took place for the first time since July 2011, with the number of participating teams increased from twenty to twenty-four. Team China B , consisting of Zhou Yuelong and Yan Bingtao , won the tournament by beating Scots John Higgins and Stephen Maguire 4-1 in the final . The defending champion was China A with the two players Ding Junhui and Xiao Guodong . They won Group A with 21 points, making them the most successful team in the group stage, but were eliminated 4-1 in the quarter-finals against Scotland .
regulate
A total of twenty-four national teams with two players each took part. The best eight teams (based on the current snooker world rankings ) were seeded, with China providing two teams as the host nation. The teams were drawn into four groups A to D. The two best-placed teams in the group stage qualified for the finals.
Group stage
Exactly five frames were played in each match, even if a team had already won three frames. Every player on one team had to play against every player on the other team in a frame. In addition, a double was played in which all four players played a frame.
The 5 frames were played in the following order:
- Singles: Player 1 versus Player 1
- Singles: Player 2 versus Player 2
- Double (alternating)
- Singles: Player 1 versus Player 2
- Singles: Player 2 versus Player 1
There was one point for every frame won. If two teams had the same number of points at the end of the group stage, the team that had won the direct duel was rated higher. If three or more teams had the same number of points, progress in the group was determined by a blue ball shootout. If two or more teams achieved the same number of points in places 3 to 5, the prize money was divided.
Finals
In the final round the game was played in the best-of-7 mode . When the score was 3: 3, the team captains nominated a player for the decision frame.
The 7 frames were played in the following order:
- Singles: Player 1 versus Player 1
- Singles: Player 2 versus Player 2
- Double (alternating)
- Singles: Player 1 versus Player 2
- Singles: Player 2 versus Player 1
- Double (alternating)
- Individual: Team captain determines the player
