Life

Collier has been a referee on the Snooker Main Tour since 1992 . The first game he directed at professional level was a qualifying game between Noppadon Noppachorn and Suriya Suwanasingh . He worked part-time as an arbitrator for nine years before signing a full-time contract in 2001.

As early as 2002 he directed the finals at the Welsh Open and the LG Cup . In 2004 he was the youngest referee of all time to lead the final of a snooker world championship . The finalists were Ronnie O'Sullivan and Graeme Dott . In 2005 he made further finals at some major tournaments, including the Masters , before temporarily ending his career as a full-time referee for personal and financial reasons. In the following years he still sporadically led professional snooker, for example at the Snooker Premier League , whose finals he led for 11 years at a time.

In 2010 he returned to the professional tour as a full-time referee. When Robert Milkins scored the 87th maximum break in snooker history in a qualifier for the 2012 World Cup against Xiao Guodong , Collier dropped his first maximum. At the moment (November 2019) he directed five maximums.

In addition to working at the table, snook referees also have tasks in the background. As markers , they control the scoreboards, keep the game record and, if necessary, help the table referee to restore the original game situation after a miss .
