The Snooker World Cup (also called World Team Classic and Nations Cup ; sometimes with sponsors in front) is a professional snooker tournament on the Main Tour .

history

The tournament was established in 1979 and initially took place in Birmingham . The team from Wales won the first World Cup . Then the tournament moved to the New London Theater for a year before taking place in Reading from 1981 to 1983 under the name World Team Classic . Bournemouth was the venue for the next six editions . After the 1989/90 season, the tournament disappeared from the calendar for a few years. 1996/97 there was a new edition in Thailand. After a year break, it was reactivated again for three years under the new name Nations Cup in England, with the teams consisting of four (previously three) players in the first two years.

After a break of eleven years, the 2011/12 tournament was reintegrated into the Main Tour as the PTT-EGAT Snooker World Cup .

In 2000, the Scot John Higgins scored the only maximum break in tournament history in the game against Dennis Taylor .
