The Ruhr Open was a snooker tournament that was held three times in the mid-2010s and , as part of the Players Tour Championship, had the status of a minor ranking tournament . The tournament was held in all three editions, which took place between 2013 and 2015, in the RWE sports hall in Mülheim an der Ruhr in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Record winners of the tournament are the winners of the respective editions, more precisely the Northern Irishman Mark Allen and the Englishmen Shaun Murphy and Rory McLeod due to the lack of two-time title holders . Murphy also played a maximum break when he won in 2014 , the highest break in tournament history.

history

The first edition of the Ruhr Open took place at the beginning of October 2013 in the RWE sports hall in Mülheim an der Ruhr as the fifth event of the European Tour , a part of the Players Tour Championship . The prize money pot included a total of € 125,000, with the winner alone accounting for a fifth. A total of 185 players including numerous amateurs took part in the sponsored tournament. The latter had to qualify for the main round via a preceding amateur qualification. The Northern Irishman Mark Allen and the Chinese Ding Junhui finally reached the final, in which Allen was able to prevail with 4: 1. With Gerard Greene and his 144 break, another Northern Irish played the highest break of the edition.

The second edition took place in November 2014 at the same location as in the previous year and was the fourth event of the European Tour 2014/15. The tournament, sponsored by the Kreativ Dental Clinic , again had prize money of £ 125,000, of which a fifth of £ 25,000 went to the winner. Of the 190 participants, two Englishmen, ex-world champions Shaun Murphy and Robert Milkins, reached the final, in which Murphy defeated Milkins 4-0. Previously, Murphy had played the tournament's highest break with a maximum break .

At the beginning of October 2015, the third edition of the Ruhr Open took place again at the same location, this time sponsored by the 188Bet company and the third event of the European Tour 2015/16. The prize money remained the same as last year. With 239 participants, however, the previous year's figure was clearly exceeded. With the Englishman Rory McLeod and the Chinese Tian Pengfei , two players who were not among the best in the world reached the final, in which McLeod won his only title in a tournament with world ranking influence with 4-2.
