The Kreativ Dental Ruhr Open 2014 (also European Tour 2014/15 - Event 4 ) was a snooker tournament that was held from November 19 to 23, 2014 in the RWE sports hall in Mülheim an der Ruhr . For the second time in a row, the North Rhine-Westphalian city hosted a minor ranking tournament of the Players Tour Championship , which was part of the 2014/15 snooker season . The title sponsor this year was the Hungarian dental clinic Kreativ Dental .
The world number one Mark Selby had become a father for the first time a few days earlier and had not registered for the tournament in advance. With Ronnie O'Sullivan and last year's finalist Ding Junhui , two other players from the top 4 of the world rankings did not compete in Mülheim. Defending champion was the Northern Irishman Mark Allen , this time he was eliminated in round 3.
Shaun Murphy was the winner of the finals on Sunday evening. He achieved his third maximum break in this calendar year, which was also the third maximum on the Players Tour Championship of the 2014/15 season. His opponent Robert Milkins had no chance in his first final in a tournament where it was about world ranking points.

Preliminary round
190 snooker players had registered for the tournament. In two rounds, the 25 players were selected from 87 qualifiers who, together with the 103 seeded players, contested the first round of the main tournament starting on Friday.
All games were played in the best of 7 frames mode. The following pairings were scheduled for the two preliminary rounds on November 19 and 20:

Main round
128 players played the main tournament from November 21st, with the first half of the first three rounds on Friday and the second on Saturday. On the final Sunday the games from the round of 16 to the final took place.
For the second time in a row after the Bulgarian Open 2014 , the Swiss Alexander Ursenbacher lost in the opening round to the Welshman Jamie Jones . Ursenbacher was the only established professional from the German-speaking area. In addition, the Austrian Andreas Ploner qualified for the main tournament. He was also eliminated in round 1. German players were not represented, which was also due to the German championship taking place at the same time .
