Lu Ning ( Chinese  魯寧 , Pinyin Lǔ Níng ; born January 1, 1994 in Jilin ) is a Chinese snooker player .

Career

At the age of 18, Lu Ning made his first appearance in a professional tournament when he received a wildcard at the 2012 Haikou World Open . With a victory over Nigel Bond he managed to get into the first round of the main tournament. At the China Open that followed, he was not only successful again in the wildcard round by defeating the Welshman Jamie Jones , with a win over the top ten player Shaun Murphy he even made it into the round of 16. In the 2012/13 season he received five wildcard chances, but only once in the International Championship he managed to beat Barry Pinches . He also took part in the Players Tour Championship (PTC), which is open to amateurs , and defeated another professional player at one of the three Chinese tournaments with Matthew Selt .

After Lu had moved into the main round for the fourth time at the Wuxi Classic 2013 , he also played at the IBSF U21 World Snooker Championship in Beijing that same year . He reached the finals and won the tournament with a 9: 4 victory over his compatriot Zhou Yuelong . The title also gave him the right to start on the Snooker Main Tour as a professional for the following two seasons.

He had his first professional success at the Australian Goldfields Open 2014 , when he reached the last 64 with two wins. He achieved this a second time at the German Masters with a victory over number 24 in the world rankings Dominic Dale . Apart from that, however, he only won a few matches at the PTC tournaments and came into round 3 at two tournaments in Asia. The tournaments brought little prize money and therefore had little influence on his ranking position. About Course 108 he did not come out into the season. In the season 2015/16 was Shanghai Masters his most successful tournament. With wins over Sanderson Lam and Kurt Maflin , he reached the third qualifying round. In addition, he only won his opening match at the Australian Goldfields Open and the German Masters, even at the PTC tournaments he remained without a win. After being in 89th place in the adjusted rankings, he was only 100th at the end of the season and he lost his professional status again.

The following year he tried to get the tour back through the Q School . While he was eliminated in the first qualifying tournament against Joe Swail at the beginning , he made it to the semifinals in the second tournament , where he lost 3: 4 to Sanderson Lam. In 2018 he also missed the decider in the first tournament by losing to his compatriot Hu Hao. In the second attempt he made it to the final of his group: In the second tournament he played against Mitchell Mann for the Tourcard and won 4: 2. As a result, he was eligible to compete in the professional tournaments again for two years from 2018.
