Sydney Wilson (born April 6, 1990 in Southend-on-Sea , Essex ) is an English snooker player .

Career

As a three-year-old, Sydney Wilson had a cue in hand for the first time and was supported in particular by his father. He later took lessons from Vic Harris , a former professional player. As a teenager he measured himself against the best players of his year and won several youth tournaments. At the age of 15 he first took part in a PIOS tournament, in which amateur players were able to qualify for the Snooker Main Tour from 2005 to 2010 . He participated in all five seasons and increased from year to year. His best result was a round of 16 in 2009. Due to a lack of financial resources, he had to sell his own snooker table and could not afford constant training. Nevertheless, from 2011 he also took part in the follow-up tournament , the Q School , and also played in seven of the twelve tournaments of the Players Tour Championship in the 2011/12 season .

The following year he achieved his greatest success to date with a victory over Gerard Greene in the first main round of the PTC tournament in Gloucester . In the Q School, he missed the finals twice for a win. With that he came into the group of amateurs who were allowed to occupy the free places in the qualification for the world ranking tournaments in the snooker season 2013/14 . Although the season was not very successful with eight opening defeats, he gained a lot of experience and also competed in the Players Tour Championship in almost all tournaments on the European continent. With another semifinal participation in the Q School at the end of the season, he secured further qualifications in world rankings tournaments in the following season.

The 2014/15 season began similarly to the previous season with first round defeats and early eliminations at PTC tournaments. It wasn't until the German Masters 2015 that he managed to beat a current professional in a ranking tournament for the second time in his career. He defeated Anthony Hamilton 5-3 and won his highest cash prize to date of £ 1,250. In the first round of the Q School 2015 he defeated the ex-professionals Marcus Campbell and Chen Zhe in the group final . This gave him professional status and the right to participate in the tournaments of the Main Tour in the following two seasons.

Sydney Wilson trains at Stepfields Club in Witham , which is where Allister Carter lives .
