The Bank of Communications OTO Shanghai Masters 2014 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2014/15 season , which was held from September 8th to 14th, 2014 on the Grand Stage of the indoor stadium in Shanghai ( China ).
The defending champion was the Chinese Ding Junhui , who lost 4-6 to Stuart Bingham in the semifinals .
In the final, Bingham prevailed 10-3 against Mark Allen and won his second title in a world ranking tournament.
Prize money and world ranking points
The prize money increased year on year by 25,000 pounds sterling , the winner was £ 5000 more. Since there were no more world ranking points since this season, but the prize money determined the world ranking position, the importance of the tournament increased. Only in four of the 21 world ranking tournaments (including the Players Tour Championship ) was there a higher amount to be won.

Final round
Tournament course
1 round
Ronnie O'Sullivan , who won the tournament in Shanghai five years ago, had to admit defeat to Scottish rival Alan McManus 3: 5 in the first final round . Also, Judd Trump , who previously at the Australian Goldfields Open triumph and the Paul Hunter Classic moved into the final, defeated Dominic Dale 2: 5th
On the next day of the tournament, the No. 2 in the world rankings , Neil Robertson , was eliminated after a 3-0 lead with 4: 5 against the Welshman Michael White . White, who had to play a wildcard match before the first round, took advantage of Robertson's weak phase after the interval and equalized to 3: 3. Robertson managed to take another 4: 3 lead, but missed the knockout point. A total of nine top 16 seeded players were eliminated in Round 1, including Barry Hawkins , Marco Fu , John Higgins and Wuxi Classic finalist Joe Perry .
Round of 16
Shaun Murphy lost to Graeme Dott 3: 5 and was eliminated as the tenth top 16 seeded player. Mark Allen triumphed 5-1 against Mark Williams in a curious game. In the fourth frame, Williams missed a playable red three times and had to give up the frame. When the score was 4-0, Allen missed the early decision when he punched the ball in the final on Pink.
Quarter finals
The reigning world champion Mark Selby prevailed against the Irish Fergal O'Brien with a clear 5-0. Mark Allen won in a thrilling game 5-4 against Michael White , who had caused a surprise with the first round win over Neil Robertson . Allen now led by a clear 4: 1 when White equalized with three strong breaks of 85, 83 and 76. In the decision-making frame, however, Allen had the stronger nerves and was able to decide the game for himself.
Semifinals
In the first semi-final there was a new edition of the final of the Riga Open between Mark Allen and World Champion Mark Selby . Selby started strong with breaks of 70, 116 and 71 and pulled away 5-2. Then Allen started a brilliant comeback, won three frames in a row and saved himself in the decision frame. Selby presented well with a 63 break, but missed Pink on the middle pocket. Everyone took advantage of the Englishman's mistake , cleared the table and reached a tournament final for the third time in a row after the Riga Open and the Paul Hunter Classic in Fürth .
Another surprise came from Stuart Bingham , who beat home favorites Ding Junhui 6-4 , making it into a ranking tournament final for the fourth time in his career. Ding took the lead at the beginning, but Bingham kept coming back. After the Chinese went 4-2, Bingham passed and won four frames in a row, including breaks of 63, 59 and 97.
final
Stuart Bingham and Mark Allen , who had prevailed in the semi-finals against favorites Ding Junhui and Mark Selby , faced each other for the first time in a tournament final. Bingham started with a strong 99 break and pulled away 4-0. Allen, who had hardly found his way into the game by then, reported back with a 97, which even offered the chance of a maximum break , but missed the thirteenth black. In the following frames the game became increasingly bumpy due to the climatic conditions, a reasonable break-building was hardly possible. Bingham got along better during this phase and extended his lead to 6-3 at the end of the first session.
Even in the evening the situation remained unchanged and Bingham was able to win three more frames. Finally, the Englishman won the game 10: 3 with a convincing 81 break in the last frame. This was the second time in his career that he won a ranking tournament.
