The Shanghai Masters 2019 was an invitation-only snooker tournament for the 2019/20 season that took place from September 9th to 15th in the east Chinese metropolis of Shanghai . The long-term ranking tournament was held for the second time as an invitation tournament. The venue was again the Regal International East Asia Hotel in the city center.
The last two editions of the tournament were won by Ronnie O'Sullivan , who defended his title with an 11-9 win over Shaun Murphy .
Prize money
The tournament was a total prize money of 750,000 £ played. It is the invitation tournament with the highest payout on the Main Tour at the moment . The total has been increased by £ 25,000 from the previous year and an annual increase of the same amount has been locked in for the next few years until 2022.

Attendees
The top 16 in the world rankings were invited (as of August 12, 2019). There were also the four best Chinese professional players in the ranking from 17th place: Yan Bingtao (18), Xiao Guodong (24), Lü Haotian (27) and Liang Wenbo (34). Four other Chinese players received a wildcard from the Chinese Association: Wu Yize and Zhao Jianbo qualified via the CBSA China Tour and Zhang Yi and Cao Jin via the Amateur Shanghai Masters .
Tournament schedule
Up to and including the quarter-finals, the game was played in the best-of-11 mode (6 winning frames). In the semifinals, the best-of-19 was then, in the final, the best-of-21. The first three rounds were held from Monday to Thursday. The first semifinal took place on Friday in two sessions, the second on Saturday. The final day was Sunday.
The top 8 were set for the round of 16. The players from places 9 to 16 played against eight Chinese players in round 1 for the round of 16.
