The 19.com English Open in 2019 were a world ranking tournament at the Snooker - season 2019/20 and were from 14 to 20 October 2019 in the K2 in Crawley in England held. After there had previously been three different venues, this time the tournament stayed in the same place for the first time. In contrast, the sponsor changed one more time. At the fourth event, the English Open again marked the start of the Home Nations series with four tournaments in the four parts of Great Britain.

Defending champion was the Englishman Stuart Bingham , who however failed in the second round with 1: 4 against the Chinese Si Jiahui . In a purely English final, ex-world champion Mark Selby finally defeated his rival David Gilbert 9-1. The highest break of the tournament was played by Tom Ford with the 153rd officially recognized maximum break in history.

Prize money

In the 2019/20 season, the prize money was increased for the first time by £ 39,000 each for the tournaments of the Home Nations series. The main aim was to strengthen the players in the lower ranks. Those who survived Round 1 or 2 would receive an additional £ 500, and if a player reached the round of 16 they were guaranteed an additional £ 1,500. Nothing has changed for the top 8 of the tournament. If a player wins all four tournaments in the series in one season, he will also receive a special prize of 1 million pounds.

Tournament results

Every year the host association of a Home Nations tournament awards two wild cards to selected amateur players. One of them went to English junior champion Mark Lloyd this year, the other to Ryan Davies, winner of the Premier Junior Tour. Up to the round of 16, four winning frames ( Best of 7 mode ) were played.

Century breaks

In the round of 16, Tom Ford achieved the 153rd official maximum break in history. After the 2007 UK Championship , it was only the second time that a 147 break had been played in a decision frame. For Ford it was the second maximum of the season and his fifth overall. The £ 5,000 for the highest tournament break went to him. In the course of the tournament, 41 participants achieved 71 century breaks , 10 fewer than in the previous year. The two finalists David Gilbert and Mark Selby were the most successful with 6 and 5 Centurys respectively. Selby's first Century in the first round match against Barry Pinches was the 600th of his career. In round 2, Shaun Murphy raised the number of his Centurys to the mark of 500. This puts them in 6th and 8th place in the all-time ranking. Michael Holt also passed the 200 Centurys mark as the 35th player.
