Career

At the age of 6, Chang Bingyu stood at the pool table for the first time. After he moved with his family to Xinjiang , northeast China, he successfully attended a training camp. Then his parents bought him his own professional table, he got snooker training and regularly took part in tournaments. At the age of 9 he was allowed to play in an exhibition match against Mark Selby . Two years later he won two tournaments of the national U14 championship and decided to compete in the U21 age group afterwards. At the age of 14 he left the regular school, he went to Guangdong and finally to the national snooker academy in Beijing .

Chang played his first professional tournament in 2015 at the Haining Open , a small tournament of the Players Tour Championship for professionals and amateurs. However, he was eliminated in qualifying. Two years later he took part in a junior world championship for the first time and at least made it to the round of 16 at the U21 World Cup in his own country, where he lost to Simon Lichtenberg . In the same season, he also qualified for a wildcard for the China Open . He won the wildcard round against his compatriot Zhang Yong and played in the first main round of the tournament. A little later he won in the qualifying round of the World Open against the top 40 professional Jimmy Robertson 5: 4 and came back into the main round. At the China Championship he defeated Robertson a second time and also Robert Milkins and lost in the round of 32 against Mark Selby, who was number 1 in the world rankings , with 1: 5. After all, on his second appearance at the China Open , Mark Davis was the third professional to lose to him, this time 4-6. At his second U21 World Cup , he made it to the semi-finals in 2018. At the amateur world championship he defeated ex-professional Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon 7: 6 in the semifinals and then won the world title 8: 3 against his compatriot He Guoqiang.

Unlike in previous years, he was unable to qualify for the Main Tour , but he played very successfully in the national CBSA China Tour . He was the best amateur player in the tournament series and was therefore nominated for the professional tour by the Chinese snooker association CBSA. At the age of 16 he was authorized to start the professional tournaments of the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons .
