qualification
The Metrodome in the northern English town of Barnsley was the venue for the qualifying round, which took place from August 15 to 18, 2019. Unlike in the previous year, so many professionals had reported that only two places were left in the 128 field. Since the Chinese association was allowed to give four wild cards to local players, as in the previous year , the players had to compete against each other in a pre-qualification. The two winners then played in qualifying. All four games with wildcard players were played in Guangzhou before the main tournament. Four more games also took place in China in September: those of defending champion Mark Selby , world champion Judd Trump and the two top-ranked Chinese players Ding Junhui and Yan Bingtao . All games were played in best-of-9 mode.
