This article describes a snooker invitation tournament, for champions competitions in other sports see
Champions League 2019/20 .
The BetVictor Championship League 2019/20 was a snooker invitation tournament as part of the Main Tour - 2019/20 season , which was played in eight group rounds between October 7, 2019 and March 5, 2020. Unlike the previous twelve editions of the tournament, it did not start at the beginning of the year, but in autumn of the previous year. Accordingly, it extended over 6 instead of the usual 3 months. The venue for the first time was the central English city of Leicester .
The winner of the previous edition was the Englishman Martin Gould , who did not run this time.
Prize money
Since the Championship League was an invitation tournament, the prize money did not count towards the world rankings . As in previous years, a maximum of £ 205,000 was awarded for the tournament, and the distribution of the prizes remained unchanged.

Qualification groups
In each of the seven groups, seven players competed against each other in round robin mode . The first four players in each group qualified for a knockout phase in which the group winner was determined. Only these qualified for the final winners' group . The defeated players in the knockout phase and the player placed in 5th place started again in the following group. The last two in the group are eliminated from the tournament.
Group 1
The first group games took place in Leicester on October 7th and 8th, 2019. The winner and thus the first participant in the Winners' Group was Australian world number four Neil Robertson . Jimmy Robertson and Luca Brecel, however, were eliminated from the tournament.

Group 2
The Group 2 games were played on October 9 and 10, 2019. Ryan Day , Barry Hawkins , Mark Selby and Jack Lisowski from Group 1 got a second chance, with Kyren Wilson , Stuart Bingham and Gary Wilson added . Bingham won the group and qualified for the Winners' Group. Day and Lisowski were eliminated from the tournament.

Group 3
The Group 3 games took place in Leicester on October 21 and 22, 2019. After Mark Selby , who had played the final of the English Open the day before , and Barry Hawkins canceled their participation, the group was newly filled at short notice. From group 2 only Kyren and Gary Wilson remained. Tom Ford , Xiao Guodong , Ben Woollaston , Graeme Dott and Matthew Selt were new. On the second attempt, Gary Wilson won the qualifying group and secured a place in the winners' group. For Xiao Guodong and Ben Woollaston, however, the Championship League was over again.

Group 4
The Group 4 games took place in Leicester on October 23 and 24, 2019. Tom Ford , Kyren Wilson , Matthew Selt and Graeme Dott got another chance because of their placements in Group 3. Joe Perry , Ali Carter and Scott Donaldson were invited for the free group places. Donaldson immediately made it through to the Winners' Group on his first Championship League participation. Ali Carter and Matthew Selt, however, were eliminated for good.

Group 5
The Group 5 games took place on January 6th and 7th, 2020 in Leicester. Anthony McGill , David Gilbert and Mark Williams have been announced in advance as new players to this group. Joe Perry , Graeme Dott , Tom Ford and Kyren Wilson got another chance as the remaining Group 4 players, but none could use it, instead Ford and Wilson were eliminated for good. Anthony McGill, however, marched through into the winners' group and reached the finals for the second time in his fourth participation.

From Group 5 Graeme Dott , Mark Williams , Joe Perry and David Gilbert could try again. The reigning world champion Judd Trump moved directly into the Winners' Group. Joe Perry and Mark King had to say goodbye to the tournament.

Century Breaks
In the qualification groups, 22 players played 92 century breaks, in the winning group, 12 century breaks were achieved by four players. Judd Trump achieved the highest breaks in both groups with 139 and 145 points, respectively. With 13 Centurys, Kyren Wilson got the most 100s.
