The Paul Hunter Classic 2019 was a snooker tournament of the Main Tour - 2019/20 season , which was held on August 24th and 25th in the Fürth town hall.
After nine years in which the Franconian city had been playing for points for the snooker world rankings, the tournament was converted into an invitation tournament. Since there were more and more tournaments on the professional tour, the tournament with its limited financial possibilities had lost its attractiveness for the top professionals in recent years. After a public survey last year, the decision was made to focus on a few more prominent players instead of many professionals from the lower ranks. In addition to defending champion Kyren Wilson , three other players from the top 16 agreed. A total of 12 places were awarded to professionals and 3 to young players. The qualifying tournament for amateurs before the Paul Hunter Classic was retained. The winner of this qualification was the only 13 year old Ukrainian Julian Bojko , who beat English professional Barry Pinches 3-2 in the final . Bojko got the last free place in the main tournament.
The winner of the tournament was the Englishman Barry Hawkins , who defeated his compatriot Kyren Wilson 4: 3 in the final.
Prize money
After € 100,000 had been distributed to 64 players in the previous year, € 20,000 was still available as a bonus this year. € 10,000 was reserved for the winner, half of the previous year's sum.
competition
Due to the lower number of games, Friday was not a tournament day. On Saturday, August 24th, the round of 16 took place in two sessions at four tables each. The three rounds from the quarter-finals to the final were played on Sunday. As in previous years, the game mode remained Best of 7 for all matches including the final.

Speed Cup
In addition to the normal tournament, the players also competed against each other in the "Speed Cup". This is also carried out in a knockout system , but only one player plays at two tables next to each other, in five different disciplines, which result in one point for each win, until one of the players has reached three points and thus one Round is next.
Because each player plays alone at his table, there is also a referee who is responsible for observing the rules as well as setting up the balls before the start and then the colored balls - at Need - put it back on (in the 3rd and 4th discipline) and do so as quickly as possible so as not to put your table at a disadvantage. They are also the only ones allowed to hand the ball to the player (ball in hand). Experienced players order their referee before the start of the 4th discipline, opposite to the pocket in which they intend to put the first colored player, in order to gain seconds.
Both players and referees are free to choose their clothes. The players should be supported by the audience through applause and encouragement.
The five disciplines are:
- 1. A ball triangle made up of nine red balls enclosing a black one must be punched by the players in accordance with the rules and in the sequence, first all reds and then black after kicking off the "D" and subsequent "Los" command of a starter. The fastest wins the point.
- 2. Only the colored balls are placed, but in the following order: pink, green, blue, black, brown, yellow (instead of yellow, brown, green, blue, pink, black) and must be punched in the "normal" order, where at the start of the game ball in position to the yellow ball - can be positioned by the player. Simultaneous start again and the fastest wins the point.
- 3. A triangle of six reds, all other colors otherwise normal positions. Again simultaneous start, maximum playing time 90 seconds, whoever has the most points after that wins the point.
- 4. The "colors" are applied normally. A total of 12 reds are distributed between the colors on the longitudinal axis of the table. Whereby between the headband and black, as well as between blue and the small colors, two reds and between black and pink, as well as pink and blue, four reds are placed at approximately the same distance from one another. The game ball can be positioned at the beginning by the player as he wishes. After the start signal, the player who has cleared first wins the point.
- 5. “Penalty shoot-out”: Here five red balls, spaced a little apart but in a row, are positioned on the middle cross line and must be punched alternately by the players with a push from the “D”. If the shot is missed, the referee removes the Ball off the table. If there is a tie after five kicks, the game will continue until one of them has scored a “goal” more (back and forth) and has thus won the point and the game 3-2.
The "Speed Cup" tournament was won by Gary Wilson against Mark King , 3-1.
