Fan Zhengyi ( Chinese  范 争 一 , Pinyin Fàn Zhēng Yī ; born January 27, 2001 in Harbin ) is a Chinese snooker player from Heilongjiang .

Career

Fan Zhengyi started playing billiards at the age of 5. He was considered a “child prodigy” and was able to keep up from the start with young people who were much older than him. He had started table tennis even earlier and wanted to emulate Harbin’s Olympic gold medalist Kong Linghui , but when a trainer certified that he was not talented enough, he gave preference to billiards, and especially snooker. At first he practiced playing without instructions. When he was 9 years old, he was sent to Shenzhen to see Wu Wenzhong, the former coach of Ding Junhui . He was tutored for three years by Wu, who also looked after other great talents and was national coach. Fan then went to Dongguan and Foshan and, in 2016, to the World Snooker Academy of the Chinese association CBSA.

He gained his first experience with international snooker at the age of 12 on the Asian Tour , which was part of the Players Tour Championship . He took part in five Chinese tournaments up to the end of the 2016 tour. However, he only managed one victory at the Haining Open 2015 against his compatriot Fang Xiongman . In the same year he also took part in the U21 Asian Cup for the first time , but was eliminated in the group stage. In his second participation in 2017 , he not only reached the final round, but even made it to the final. He lost that 6-1 to Yuan Sijun . He then took part in the U21 World Cup and also reached the final there. In a purely Chinese final, he met Luo Honghao and after 2: 5 deficit he just prevailed 7: 6. At the age of 17 he qualified for the professional tour of the following two years. He then took part in the amateur world championship , but lost in round 2 against Luo with 1: 5.
