Yuan Sijun ( Chinese 袁思俊 , Pinyin Yuán Sī Jùn ; born May 29, 2000 in Nanchang ) is a Chinese snooker player from Jiangxi .
Career
Yuan Sijun discovered snooker at the age of 7. When he was 9 years old, he started attending a snooker school in Shanghai every summer vacation . Because of his talent, he became a successful player in just a few years. In 2011 he signed up for the national snooker tour and in 2012 he took part in a major tournament in Sichuan . He defeated Rouzi Maimaiti 5-2 in the final and won about € 3800 (30,000 yuan) in prize money. After this landmark victory, he finished school and began professional snooker training at the CBSA World Snooker Academy in Beijing.
He had his first encounter with the international professional snooker in the same year at the PTC - tournament in Yixing . However, he was drawn against Barry Hawkins , against whom he had no chance. The following year he took part in the U21 World Cup in Beijing and reached the semi-finals, where he was defeated by Lu Ning , who was six years older than him , and then became World Youth Champion. In addition to participating in the PTC tournaments, he received wild cards for the professional tournaments of the 2013/14 season . At the Shanghai Masters , at the age of 13, he was the youngest player to ever win the wildcard qualifying tournament. At the World Open he benefited from the failure of his opponent and without a fight he entered the final round of a major world ranking tournament for the first time.
In 2015, Yuan took part in the U21 Asian Cup and reached the final for the first time. He lost to Akani Songsermsawad 4-6. The following year he made it to the quarter-finals and in the men he was at least among the last 32. At the China Open 2016 he succeeded his first wildcard win against Andrew Higginson 5: 3 and then a 5: 0 against the top 16 - Player Martin Gould . In the 2016/17 season , the two met again in the wildcard round of the Shanghai Masters and the Chinese won a second time with 5-0. At the 6-Red World Championship 2016 he reached the round of 16 of a Main Tour tournament for the first time with victories over Mark Williams and James Wattana .
In the youth field he was defeated by Lukas Kleckers 4-5 in the quarterfinals of the U21 World Cup . Half a year later he reached the final of the U21 Asian Cup for the second time and this time he won the title with a 6-1 win over Fan Zhengyi. The victory also earned him the right to start the Main Tour for the following two seasons. In 2017 he qualified for the Shanghai Masters by beating Shaun Murphy 5: 4, in which he was eliminated in the first round after a 5: 5 against Robbie Williams.
