Zhang Jiankang ( Chinese 张健康 , Pinyin Zhāng Jiànkāng ; born August 25, 1998 in Sichuan ) is a Chinese snooker player . In 2018 he became a professional on the Main Tour .
Career
Zhang Jiankang discovered snooker for the first time at the age of 9 and began to play intensively a year later. At 15 he went to the World Snooker Academy of the Chinese association CBSA. At the age of 16 he was the best non-professional on the China tour and then received a wildcard for the 2016 International Championship . He defeated Ross Muir 6-3 and moved into the main tournament, where he was defeated by Stuart Bingham 6-1. At the Shanghai Masters the following year, he lost his wildcard match. He made it to the quarter-finals of the U21 Asian Cup in 2017. At the U21 World Cup he lost 6-2 in the semifinals against the eventual title winner Fan Zhengyi . He missed two chances to qualify for the Snooker Main Tour . And the hope of passing the Q School qualification was not fulfilled this year. He lost his opening game in both tournaments, but he was also unlucky with the draw and had to face the former professionals Steven Hallworth and Fraser Patrick .
But he was again very successful on the CBSA China Tour . In 2018 he was again one of the best amateurs in the tour ranking and thus won one of the two places on the main tour. This gave him the right to start the professional tournaments of the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons .
