The Shanghai Masters 2018 was an invitation-only snooker tournament in the 2018/19 season that took place from September 10 to 16 in the Chinese port city of Shanghai . For eleven years the tournament in the city was held as a world ranking tournament with all snooker professionals, from this year it was converted into an invitation tournament for the top 16 and 8 other Chinese players. For this, the Shanghai Masters also moved from a sports facility to the Regal International East Asia Hotel .

The last ranking tournament in the previous year was won by Ronnie O'Sullivan . This was able to defend his title with an 11: 9 victory over Barry Hawkins . O'Sullivan played the highest break of the tournament with Stuart Bingham .

Prize money

The tournament was played for a total of £ 725,000 in prize money . It was the invitation tournament with the highest payout on the Main Tour . The amount was increased by £ 25,000 from the previous year and an increase of the same amount annually was fixed for the next few years. Due to the reduction in the number of participants to 24, the individual premiums rose in some cases considerably from the previous year. The winner alone received £ 50,000 and the finalist £ 25,000 more; for the losing semi-finalists, the bonus almost doubled (previous year £ 32,000).
