Zak Surety (born October 4, 1991 in Basildon ) is an English snooker player .

Career

The first two professional years

At the age of 18, Zak Surety made his first appearance at a Main Tour tournament open to amateurs of the Players Tour Championship 2010/11 . At the first event in Sheffield he lost just 3: 4 to professional player Liam Highfield . At the end of the season he tried in vain to qualify for the professional tour through the Q School . The following year he took part regularly in the English PTC tournaments and made it into the 128 main field once. The second Q-School attempt was again unsuccessful. In the 2012/13 season he succeeded in the fifth PTC event in Gloucester for the first time a victory over a professional player ( Jack Lisowski ) and then the jump under the last 32. In the second Q-School tournament , he was in the playoff for this season the tour ticket and lost.

By reaching the finals, he was allowed to participate in the qualification for four professional tournaments and won one against Patrick Einsle . In the PTC Euro Tour, he defeated Anthony Hamilton for the first time an established professional player. In the Amateur Cup tournaments held parallel to the PTC tournaments, he made it to the finals of the EBSA Qualifying Tour , where at the age of 22 he won one of the three places on the Main Tour for the next two years.

In his first professional year in the 2014/15 season he started unsuccessfully with first round defeats before he qualified for a professional tournament, the International Championship , for the first time at the end of September 2014 with a victory over Mark King . At the tournament itself, he suffered a first-round defeat against David Gilbert . Zak Surety reached the round of 32 at the penultimate tournament of the season, the 2015 China Open . After beating Li Hang in qualifying , he defeated Joe Swail in the first round . He lost the next game to Robert Milkins . At the end of his first season he was 97th in the world rankings.

In the 2015/16 season he was able to win his opening match in qualifying for the Shanghai Masters 2015 and the German Masters 2016 . However, Surety did not qualify for any world ranking tournament. Only in the minor ranking tournaments of the European Tour of the PTC series was he seeded for the main field. He achieved the best result, reaching the round of 32, at the Gdynia Open 2016 . After he achieved his best position in the snooker world rankings with 79th place several times during the season , he finished the season after the snooker world championship in 85th place. After the expiry of his main tour ticket, which was valid for two years, he missed the rest of the tour, which he could have secured with a placement in the top 64. Zak Surety tried to re-qualify directly through the Q School . In the first tournament he was eliminated in the second round of his group. In the second tournament he made it to the final of his group, but lost there to David John .

Tour return after four years

Due to his high placement in the overall Q-School ranking, he was allowed to take part in some professional tournaments as a successor in the following season and he used it to make it into the last 32 at the European Masters 2016 . In addition, his participation and further qualification attempts remained largely unsuccessful in the next few years. In 2019 he at least reached a group semi- final. Only the following year he reached the playoff in the second tournament . This time he prevailed 4-1 against Leo Fernandez and was thus qualified for two more years on the Main Tour from the 2020/21 season.
