The 6-Red World Championship is a tournament in the snooker variant Six-Red-Snooker .
history
The tournament was established in 2008 as 6-Red Snooker International and held in Thailand's capital Bangkok. The tournament was not part of the Snooker Main Tour , even if 21 of the 48 participants were professionals from the Main Tour. The organizing association was the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS). In the next two years there were further editions under the name 6-Red World Grand Prix and 6-Red World Championship , again with professional participation, but without the tournament being part of the official Main Tour calendar.
In December 2009, a similar event called the 6-Red World Championship was held in Killarney, Ireland , sponsored by 888.com and won by Mark Davis .
In the 2011/12 season , neither the Bangkok nor Ireland event was repeated. In the 2012/13 season there was a new edition in Bangkok, this time as part of the main tour, but as an invitation tournament without any influence on the snooker world rankings .
2008
The SangSom 6-Red Snooker International 2008 was held from July 8th to 13th, 2008 at the Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok , Thailand .
Although 21 of the 48 participants in the 2008/09 season were professionals from the Main Tour, the tournament was not part of the Snooker Main Tour. The organizing association was the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS).
In the group stage, eight groups of six players each played against each other. The four best in each group qualified for the final round. There the two finalists were determined in the knockout system. The mode has remained the same for the following tournaments.
In the final the Englishman Ricky Walden defeated his compatriot Stuart Bingham 8: 3.
In the first previous tournament of the 6-Red World Championship there were six maximum breaks of 75 points. The most maximum breaks, namely two, were achieved by Michael Holt .
2009
The SangSom 6-Red World Grand Prix 2009 took place from July 7th to 12th, 2009, also at the Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok .
As in the previous year, this tournament was not part of the official Main Tour calendar, although 23 of the 48 participants were Main Tour professionals .
Jimmy White won the final against Barry Hawkins 8: 6 after beating defending champion Ricky Walden 6: 5 in the round of 16 .
In the second edition of this tournament there were three maximum breaks, of which Michael Holt , Ryan Day and Jimmy White played one each.
2010
The SangSom 6-Red World Championship 2010 was held from July 19 to 24, 2010.
28 of the 48 participants were Main Tour professionals , but this tournament was not part of the Snooker Main Tour either.
Defending champion Jimmy White was eliminated in the quarterfinals against last year's final opponent Barry Hawkins . With Gerard Greene , the last non-English player was eliminated from the tournament, also in the quarter-finals. The final was won by Mark Selby against Ricky Walden 8: 6. Ricky Walden was the first player to reach the final of the 6-Red World Championship twice.
There were ten maximum breaks at the 6-Red World Championship 2010. Andrew Pagett and Jimmy White played the most, with two maxs each.
2012
The SangSom 6-Red World Championship 2012 was July 2 to 7, like all previous tournaments, also held at the Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok. This year the tournament was part of the Snooker Main Tour for the first time .
Mark Selby , the defending champion from 2010, was eliminated in the quarterfinals 5-7 against Judd Trump . As in all previous tournaments, there was an all-English final in 2012. Mark Davis won it 8-4 against Shaun Murphy .
This year there were fewer maximum breaks than ever before. Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy each played one.
