The Singapore Masters was a snooker tournament that was held twice in the mid-1980s and had the status of an invitation-only tournament. The tournament was held in both 1984 and 1985 in the eponymous city-state of Singapore . Record winners are Terry Griffiths from Welsh and Steve Davis from England , who each won one edition and came second in the other. There is no record of potentially high breaks.

history

The Singapore Masters was one of a series of tournaments held by Barry Hearn's company Matchroom Sport in Asia from the mid-1980s without a sponsor and with the French cognac brand Camus as sponsor in Asia . An integral part of these tournaments was the opportunity for local amateurs to take part in the tournament. The first edition took place in the middle of 1984, i.e. during the 1984/85 season , with four professional and two amateur players as a simple round-robin tournament in the Mandarin Hotel . The winner was Terry Griffiths from Welsh , who was just ahead of Steve Davis in first place in the final table. A year later, at around the same time during the 1985/86 season, the second edition took place, in which four professional players and two local amateurs took part. This time the tournament was played in the knockout system . Terry Griffiths narrowly missed a successful title defense when he lost 4-2 to Steve Davis in the final. There were no further issues afterwards.
