The Scottish Professional Championship was a snooker tournament to determine the national champions of Scotland.

history

Between 1980 and 1983 there were the first four editions in different parts of Scotland.

From 1985 the competition was financially supported by the world association WPBSA . In the other leading snooker nations (England, Wales, Ireland, Canada, Australia and South Africa), corresponding championships between 1984/85 and 1988/89 were financed by the world association (see section see also ). Only players from the relevant country were eligible to participate; consequently there were no points for the snooker world rankings .

In 1985, 1986, 1988 and 1989 Edinburgh was the venue, while in 1987 it was Glasgow . After 1989, the tournament was no longer hosted until it was re-held in Clydebank in 2011 .

In 1989, John Rea scored a maximum break .
