The British Caledonian Tokyo Masters 1987 was a professional snooker invitation tournament during the 1987/88 season . It was held from August 28 to 31, 1987 at the Tokyo Hilton in the Japanese capital of Tokyo . The winner of the only staging of the tournament was the Northern Irishman Dennis Taylor , who defeated the Welshman Terry Griffiths 6: 3 in the final. Griffiths played the only century of the tournament with a 118 break and thus the highest tournament break.
The Tokyo Masters was the first of three tournament of Barry Hearn 's company Matchroom Sport discharged 1987 World Series .
Prize money
The tournaments of the World Series, there was a fixed price of money, which a total of 100,000 pounds sterling was per tournament. In addition, the World Series winner received an extra cash prize.

The Northern Irishman Dennis Taylor had defeated the Englishman Steve Davis in the semi-finals in a remake of the 1985 World Cup final, known as the match of the century , just 3-2. His opponent, ex-world champion Terry Griffiths , on the other hand, was able to throw his semi-final opponent Jimmy White out of the tournament with a white wash .
Taylor got off to a better start and took a 2-0 lead before Griffiths won the third frame to make it 2-1. With two 50s breaks in the two following frames, Taylor was able to extend his lead to 4: 1 and then to 5: 1 with the next frame. Griffiths was able to get close to 5: 3 before Taylor won the ninth frame to win the tournament and match with 54:44
